The old ceiling was 4.5 scholarships for men's golf and 6 for women's golf, split across a roster with no size limit. As of July 1, 2025, that changed. D1 programs that opted into the new rules no longer have a scholarship cap at all, they can fund any athlete on the roster, full or partial. What changed instead is the roster itself: both men's and women's golf are now capped at 9 players per team.
Net effect: fewer roster spots, but each one can now carry real money behind it. A program that used to stretch 4.5 scholarships across 12-14 players is now funding up to 9 spots outright, if it chooses to. Not every school will fully fund every spot, and not every school opted in, so the actual number still varies by program. But the ceiling moved up significantly.
